To honour our ANZACs and help teach people about a different aspect of the tradition, News Corp produced The Official ANZAC Coin Collection, this year focusing on a selection of medals awarded over the last century. Each day for two weeks, you could purchase a limited edition coin with your paper. Each coin comes mounted on a card containing information not only about the medal, but also the story of someone it had been awarded to.
We were really focused on the stories, with our TVC literally putting the viewer in the boots of Albert Jacka, the first recipient of the Victoria Cross at Gallipoli. By showing a WWI trench from the perspective of one of the soldiers then a young girl reading about his story, it links the past and present, keeping the ANZAC stories alive. Working with a WWI historian from the Australian War Memorial, we ensured that all details were historically accurate.
The Discover the Stories Behind the Medals campaign ran nationally across tv, press, pos, digital and social media.
