The Long Walk to Treatment

For a person living in regional NSW, trying to access drug treatment is prohibitive. Even if they manage to secure a place in a treatment program (which are very few and in high demand), they may have to travel unfathomable distances to reach the program.

It would take 500,000 steps to walk from Dubbo to Sydney, the distance some of these people may need to travel just to reach the treatment they need. Step by step, Uniting and their supporters walked from Dubbo to Sydney in the footsteps of those seeking fair treatment and delivering a policy document to politicians calling for better drug treatment.

To raise awareness and support for our cause, we called for all Australians to draw the line on drug policy and add their signature to get behind the movement. They could draw their signature on the website, which then appeared in social posts and custom posters. The signatures were also woven into a 3D printed baton which housed the policy document throughout the walk, handed from person to person and eventually being hand-delivered to government officials.
